These Chocolate Dipped Pretzels are the perfect sweet and salty snack to have at your next party. Not only is this recipe one of the easiest Valentine’s Day desserts but it also makes a great goodie bag or afternoon snack to have on hand!
Chocolate dipped pretzels are one of those snacks that always hits the spot when you can’t decide whether you want something sweet or salty. The chocolate exterior offers your palate a sugary sweetness while the salt that lines the pretzels counteracts that sweetness for an amazing flavor profile!
I mean, sweet and salty… what can go wrong?
Frequently Asked Questions About Dipped Pretzels
Before I share how to make these chocolate covered pretzels, here are a few questions I have gotten from our readers that I wanted to share:
What Kind Of Chocolate Is Good For Melting?
For this chocolate pretzel recipe, I used colored melting chocolate from Wilton’s. If you don’t have any on hand, break up some chocolate baking bars and put them into the mason jars to melt.
If you see the chocolate bars having a hard time melting down, add about a tablespoon of shortening and stir until the chocolate has a smooth consistency.
What Toppings Can I Add To The Chocolate Dipped Pretzels?
If sprinkles aren’t really your thing or you want to have different types of dipped pretzels, here are a couple of other toppings you can add:
- Chopped nuts (such as peanuts, walnuts, and almonds)
- Crushed peppermints
- Shredded coconut
- Butterscotch pieces
- Mini M&M’s
How Long Do Pretzels Dipped In Chocolate Last?
If you have any more pretzels leftover, you should store the rest of them in an airtight container. These chocolate covered pretzels can last for about 2 weeks.
Chocolate Dipped Pretzels for Valentine’s Day
To make this quick and easy Valentine’s Day dessert, here are the ingredients you will need:
- Melting chocolate (pink and white)
- Mason jars
- Pretzel rods
- Mini pretzels
- Valentine’s themed sprinkles
- Parchment paper
How To Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels With Candy Melts
The first thing you will want to do is make sure everything is ready before you start making the pretzels.
Place a piece of parchment onto your counter. This is where you will place your chocolate covered pretzels to start cooling and to decorate with your Valentine sprinkles.
Turn the slow cooker on high and pour in two cups of hot water.
Empty one bag of melting chocolates into each mason jar. They will not all fit into the jar, but most of them will. Whatever you have leftover can be added once the chips have started melting.
Place the mason jars into the slow cooker, and then add an additional 4-6 cups of hot water. Fill your slow cooker with enough water to come up to a halfway point on the mason jars.
Melting Chocolate In The Crockpot
Leave the mason jars alone for about 25-30 minutes. After the time has passed, you should be able to start stirring your chocolates to try to get that smooth consistency.
Continue to stir the chocolate every 5 minutes until it’s silky smooth. Once it’s all melted down, turn your slow cooker onto the warm setting.
Remove the mason jars and wipe the bottoms to remove water from them.
Time To Decorate The Pretzels
Place by the parchment paper, and start dunking your pretzel rods and pieces into the chocolates.
In between dunking pretzels, I would start decorating them with the sprinkles so they will adhere better.
Allow 15-20 minutes to cool, and then transfer to a wire rack to completely cool for another hour before storing in an air-tight container.
Cooking Tips
- If you are in a hurry or don’t have a slow cooker on hand, pour the melting chocolates into a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals until the chocolate has completely melted.
- Be very careful to not get any water into the chocolates while stirring. If you do, the chocolate will seize up and harden and you will have to start all over again.
- I only covered about 25% of the pretzel rods, but you can cover more if you wish. Simply use the spoon that you’re stirring with to help coat the rest of the pretzel rod. You can even break the pretzel rods in half for more bite-size portions.
- To clean the melted chocolate out of the mason jars, use some hot water and a spatula while the chocolate is still semi-warm in the jar.
- If your chocolate dip gets cold, you can place them back into the slow cooker for a few minutes.
- Whenever you’re not using the chocolate, place back into the slow cooker to keep it warm and malleable.
